  • Take Hwy 160 North to Pahrump
  • Turn left on Bell Vista (there is a sign at this junction to Death Valley
  • National Park and Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge)
  • Turn Right (about 19 miles) at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge
  • Ash Meadows Road north to Bob Ruud Memorial Hwy, make a right turn on to Bob Ruud Memorial Highway.
  • Continue Bob Ruud Memorial Hwy in a NE direction for about a mile until you see a sign on for Devils Hole.
  • Park in the space provided along Bob Ruud Memorial Hwy and walk to the Devils Hole Overlook about 1/4 off the road to the west (follow the dirt road behind the swing gate).

  • From Furnace Creek Visitor Center in Death Valley National Park:
  • Take Highway 190 east 30 miles to Highway 127, turn right.
  • Go about 300 feet to Stateline Road, turn left
  • Drive 7 miles to a gravel road signed “Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge”,
    turn left.
  • Ash Meadows Road north to Bob Ruud Memorial Hwy, make a right turn on to Bob Ruud Memorial Highway.
  • Continue Bob Ruud Memorial Hwy in a NE direction for about a mile until you see a sign on for Devils Hole.
  • Park in the space provided along Bob Ruud Memorial Hwy and walk to the Devils Hole Overlook about 1/4 off the road to the west (follow the dirt road behind the swing gate).

Access into the "Hole" is restricted, so viewing these pupfish is difficult. In some conditions, binoculars are helpful. A visit to refuge headquarters and Crystal Pool Boardwalk is also recommended.
