College:
UC Riverside, UCLA
Degree:
B.A. Zoology from UCLA 1969
Ph.D. Biology from U.C. Riverside 1974
Occupation:
Professor of Biomedical Science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Why did you choose this career?
My father enjoyed the outdoors and taught me to respect and preserve it. I have always like animals and how they survive in the desert so biology was a natural choice.
Job Description at Devils Hole:
When they asked him to be a diver he jumped at the chance. He's been counting the pupfish every year since 1976.

What advice do you have for the kids who want to do something like this:

Take as many science courses as you can. Never stop learning ! Chemistry and math may seem unrelated to biology and SCUBA diving but the better prepared you are the more opportunities are available for fun stuff like working with pupfish and other desert creatures.
