Display or Exhibit Don’ts

Do not plan on displaying any equipment in front of the table that your display is set up on (use photographs or drawing of all essential equipment in your display). All items must fit within the 122 cm (4 ft.) wide by 76 cm (2.5 ft.) deep “foot print” of your display.

Do not include any personal information about you, your teacher or your school on the front or back of your board.

Do not use facial photographs on your display exhibit.

Do not include the following items as part of your display exhibit:

  • Human parts other than teeth, nails, tissue sections, and liquid tissue slides (properly collected and prepared)
  • Photographs or other visual presentations of any surgical techniques, dissections, autopsies and/or laboratory techniques showing vertebrate animals in other than normal conditions. (These can be included in your notebook “journal”.)
  • Living or non-living vertebrate animals, plants, molds, viral or bacterial materials.
  • Controlled substances (drugs, chemicals, anesthetics etc).
  • High flammable or dangerous combustible materials in project displays (including unspent rock engines or empty fuel tanks or containers).

Do not use or include the following electrical materials in your display exhibit:

  • Bare or loose wire.
  • Unprotected high voltage circuits within reach of viewers.
  • Extension cords that are inadequate for the electrical load that they will be carrying.
  • Open top, wet cells.
  • Open knife switches or bell ringing push buttons used with circuits exceeding 12 volts.
  • Class III or IV lasers

Open flames are not allowed as part of the display or exhibit.

An exhibitor (student) may not participate in two or more individual or group projects.

Liquid on any kind should not be included at the display tables.
Glass of any kind or sharp objects should not be included in the display or on the display table.

The Science Fair Committee reserves the right of refusal of an exhibit that it deems unsafe, unsuitable for public exhibition, or in direct conflict with California Education Code. This includes, but is not limited to, any projects that display or discuss subjects that require parental consent and/or rights of review.
