7th Grade Life Science

Mrs. Thielen attended The Master’s College and earned her BA in Liberal Studies in 1987. After graduating Cum Laude, she finished her credential work in 1988 with emphases in Life Science and English. Wendy has taught elementary, middle, and high school classes over the past 18 years, both in Oregon and California. While in Oregon, she helped improve the Talented and Gifted student program and also served as a teacher consultant for the Oregon Geographic Alliance. The last 8 years of her teaching have been invested at the Lewis Center where she has taught for the Math and Science departments.

Wendy strives to have classes that are challenging, fun and engaging. She utilizes the school’s natural Wildlands to enrich her lessons and she also provides many interactive classroom experiences. Her goal is for students to deepen their appreciation of the sciences by understanding how their studies relate to real life.

8th Grade Physical Science, Student Space Scientist

Mrs.Gaidzik received her BA from CSUSB in 1995 where she graduated Phi Kappa Phi. She completed her teacher credentialing classes at Chapman University obtaining a clear credential in Health Science and Geoscience. This is Mrs.Gaidzik's tenth year of teaching at both the Middle and High School level. In the past she taught classes in Physical Science, Biology, Life Science, Earth Science, Environmental Science. Currently, Mrs.Gaidzik is teach 8th grade Physical Science and Student Space Scientist I (SSpSci).

Mrs.Gaidzik came to AAE in January 2004. She enjoys having fun with her 8th grade physical science classes as she leads them through the many hands-on lessons and challenging activities or when she takes the Space Scientist students on one of their "extra terrestrial" explorations.

HS Earth Science, Metorology & Water Science

John Nyhoff has a BS. degree from Grand Valley State University in Michigan and is currently working on his masters degree from Chapman University. John has taught science courses for the past nine years in high school, middle school, and Jr. college. John has received the Arizona/Nevada Academy of Science High School Teacher-of-the-Year Award in 1999. He has also received awards from the State of Arizona for developing curriculum that best represented the work place. John enjoys being outside and showing students new things about the world they live in.

HS Chemistry, HS Conceptual & AP Physics

.Steve Bailey received a BA in Biological Sciences with a minor in chemistry in 1985 from CSU Stanislaus. He spent the next two years studying a population of lizards while enrolled in the biological sciences program in the graduate school of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Upon his return to California, he worked as a chemical analyst in an EPA certified test facility in Modesto while waiting to enter a teacher certification program. Since 1990, Mr. Bailey has enjoyed teaching all levels of Biology and Chemistry to High School and College Students in Barstow and Fort Irwin. Mr. Bailey strives for excellence from himself and his students and continually helps students understand and challenge themselves to understand and appreciate the nuances and connections between the different disciplines of the sciences and the importance of the sciences in our daily lives. In 1996 He took a 3-1/2 year “hiatus” from teaching while he worked for San Bernardino County Schools on several technology projects which gave him the opportunity to work closely with teachers in many different schools around this region of southern California. He has been back in the classroom since 2000 working on creative ways to help students understand and master difficult chemistry skills and concepts.
